    We are currently seeking a Commercial Support Specialist to join our team at BrightStar Credit Union!

     

    The primary role of this position is to make a difference in our member’s financial health. This is accomplished by providing the highest quality of service to both internal and external members. In addition, this position supports the business development team. Ensures that commercial loan documentation and credit files are in good order.  Assists with renewals and the collection of delinquent commercial loan payments. Responsible for sending out correspondence, commitment letters and requests for information to members.  Compiles reports and materials for presentation to Senior Management, Loan Committee and the Board of Directors. Organizes the work flow for matters receiving the attention of the Business Development Officers and helps to ensure that priority matters are accomplished when due. Coordinates documentation for loan closings including legal documents originated by Lending Operations, completion of internal CU forms and examination of member provided documents. Assists in the preparation of documents for the renewal of loans. Maintains a tickler file on outstanding documentation and takes appropriate action, at the direction of the Business Development Officer, to eliminate any exceptions. Orders appropriate credit reports, flood hazard reports and reports on outstanding property liens. Manages input of data into the lending management systems including the pipeline and coordinates reports with the system administrator.  Communicates with members and prospective loan members.

    Responsibilities

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Works closely with commercial lenders to assist with loans by obtaining financial data, drafting letters and agreements, clearing exceptions, and obtaining collateral documentation. Coordinates with CPA's, attorneys, insurance agents, etc. of assigned clients to resolve specific exceptions and transactional issues.
    • Coordinates the preparation of required loan documentation via worksheets; reviews loan documentation; coordinates execution of loan documents; coordinates booking of renewal loan documents; clears loan exceptions.
    • Responsible for supporting multiple Business Development Officers with large and complex loan portfolios by assisting in the management of member relationships involving complex accounts by processing transactions, renewing loans, resolving account/customer issues and providing various other administrative support. Performs functions using a variety of CU and lending system applications.
    • Serves as first point of contact for commercial members; primary contact for all member service issues.
    • Reviews all loan documents to insure documentation is approved and in compliance with regulations and company policy; maintains knowledge of current lending policies, procedures and regulations. Attends and completes all necessary training.
    • Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of multiple reports; keeps the Business Development Officers apprised of any issues/problems that may arise and need attention. 
    • Utilizes advanced knowledge of CU products and services to identify and refer cross sell opportunities.
    • Assists Business Development Officers to manage the deposit relationship and related services, i.e. wires, account set up, NSF management, approvals, signatures, etc . May monitor overdrafts and refer to Business Development Officer for a decision. May assist members with draws, transfers and loan payments with appropriate authorization.
    • May support Asset Based Lending areas by reviewing accounts utilizing general accounting, clerical and auditing skills.
    • May monitor past due reports; coordinates with designated individuals to collect past due principal and interest payments to insure payment. May review past due report monthly and alert Business Development Officer on the status of past dues and any pending issues.
    • May be responsible for initiation, processing and balancing letters of credit.
    • May assist in various Cash Management support roles to include account setup, direct servicing to customers, account maintenance, balancing and international wires.
    • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate CU authority in a timely fashion.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Maintain knowledge with training:                                                                   

          • BSA Compliance – every employee is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions with BSCU will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department.
          • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online BSA and OFAC courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Department.
          • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, Fair Lending and Credit Card Act.  

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience:

    Experience:     Minimum 2 – 4 years of experience in commercial and/or branch lending operations.

    Education:       Associates or two year college degree equivalent in business administration, finance or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

     

    Additional Skills:

    • Demonstrated proficiency in basic software applications such as MS Word and Excel and other internal systems used in financial institution/banking.
    • Familiarity with loan documentation for commercial lending, discount procedures and collection procedures helpful.
    • Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Candidate must be able to work independently and possess excellent telephone etiquette.
